The CHESS Committee was approved on January 5, 2026. The Committee consists of the combination of the previous Housing/Community Development/Social Services (HCD/SS), Education, and State & Commerce Committees.
The CHESS Committee has primary responsibility for monitoring and making recommendations on matters related to housing stability, community development, social services, educational programs and initiatives, and state and federal legislative and economic activity affecting the City.
The CHESS Committee considers and makes recommendations on:
- Allocation and approval of annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME, and Neighborhood Assistance Act funds.
- Affordable housing initiatives and partnerships with housing and community development entities.
- Contracts and appropriations relating to school construction projects, educational programs, and related initiatives (as a secondary committee).
- City ordinances and resolutions responding to state and federal legislation and economic policies impacting the City.
